An exotic foray into orange wine, this refreshingly clean example has a mouthfeel that lends itself to Chardonnay drinkers looking for something a little different. Dried apricot and red pear on the nose, bruised apple and rose hip shine on an entry that achieves stunning depth with a weight that comes from sur lie aging. A silky finish is accentuated by a light tannin element with touches of fennel and spearmint.

Tarpon Cellars was founded in 2017 by veteran winemaker Jeremy Carter, with the focus of crafting wines of distinction from Napa Valley. It produces single-vineyard wines with fruit from Shifflett Ranch in Oak Knoll, and one dollar from every bottle sold goes to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Georgia. Despite being a Napa Valley wine, Tarpon Cellars has deep roots in the southeast, with a distribution focus in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
A Georgia native, Jeremy attended Florida State University before moving to the Napa Valley in 2007 for an internship at his uncle’s winery in Rutherford. He would soon hone his winemaking acumen through positions at Luna, Chappellet, and Duckhorn while also crafting 90-point wines under his previous label, J.R. Carter Wine Cellars. Having made wine in Napa, Sonoma, and New Zealand, the opportunity to work with fruit from Shifflett Ranch and create a brand of distinction was an opportunity he had always dreamed of.
Shifflett Ranch & Vineyard entered into the Shifflett family in 1942 with the dream of a horse ranch. Over the years the property evolved with the different generations of family who lived and played there. This ranch, west of Yountville on Darms Lane was found to be ideally suited to grapes with its volcanic soils and rocky hillside vistas. Regarded as the southernmost true alluvial fan of the Maayacamas Range, these vineyards garner a deep ruby color as well as supple and elegant tannins. After almost 80 years of Shifflett family managing these vineyards, the richness of the Napa Valley soil runs through their veins as they produce world class grapes vintage after vintage.
