Domaine Fouassier is among the oldest family-run estates in Sancerre, with winemaking roots dating back over 10 generations. Today, brothers Benoît and Paul Fouassier lead the domaine with a firm commitment to biodynamic and organic farming, viewing each vineyard as a living ecosystem. Their approach is low-intervention, allowing the terroir to guide the style of each cuvée. With holdings across Sancerre’s key soil types—silex, caillottes, and terres blanches—they produce wines of clarity, distinction, and place. “Garenne” is a vivid expression of their hillside vineyard philosophy: precision, minerality, and energy in the glass.

2023 Domaine Fouassier Sancerre "Garenne", Loire Valley, France
Vibrant and precise, the 2023 “Garenne” captures the energy and stony elegance of Sancerre’s chalky terroir. This Sauvignon Blanc opens with a lifted bouquet of grapefruit zest, crushed limestone, and white flowers. The palate is taut and saline-driven, with bright citrus and green pear riding a sleek spine of acidity. The finish is long, mineral, and mouthwatering—true to its hillside origins.

ABOUT THIS WINE
“Garenne” is sourced from one of Domaine Fouassier’s higher-elevation parcels, where flinty and chalk-limestone soils lend a distinct mineral backbone to the wine. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in stainless steel to preserve purity, the 2023 vintage reflects a classic Sancerre profile: sharp citrus fruit, herbal nuance, and a chiselled structure. The vines are farmed biodynamically, rooted deeply in the Kimmeridgian marl and silex that define this corner of the eastern Loire. This wine speaks of place—cool nights, sunlit slopes, and a tension between fruit and stone. Ideal alongside fresh goat cheese, oysters, or herb-laced vegetable dishes.
