The color is deep and luminous garnet. On the nose there are very floral aromas of peony and rose with hints of hyacinth. The palate is velvety and the tannins are silky. The wine is without heaviness ; holding a fresh frame from start to finish.

      Product information

The terroir is of decomposed pink granite as well as layers of clay and the root system of the vines is runs quite deep. The vineyard is home to old vines of Gamay which are 40 to 60 years old, planted on Riparia Gloire and Vialla. Very high density of 10,000 vines / ha. Low and qualitative yields of 32 hl / ha. Farming practices are organic & biodynamic (certified). Harvest is done by hand, picking in 16kg boxes. Once t the winery, total destemming, vinification in raw concrete vats, 28-day maceration. 24 months aging in casks and 500 liter demi-muids in order to preserve both its freshness and to consolidate its material.

Bachelards means "place of God" in the language of Oil.

The vineyard is certainly replanted after phylloxera as everywhere in France but another rare fact for the region, few vines have been uprooted since and still today many old vines on the estate date from 1910, the average age of the vines. thus ranging from 60 to over 100 years. Replanting was done systematically from mass selection and today the estate is planted between 9 and 10,000 vines / ha. In 2007, a new owner took over the estate and converted it to organic farming, which is unique to Fleurie and thus made the Château des Bachelards a forerunner in this area. The vineyard has therefore been certified organic since 2007 and certified biodynamic since 2015 by Demeter. Since 2017, the Château des Bachelards has also been awarded the “Fermes d'Avenir” label.

At the start of 2014, Alexandra de Vazeilles, a graduate in viticulture and oenology, acquired the Château des Bachelards, one of the most beautiful traditional residences in the Rhône, a vineyard with a large majority of very old vines, planted with first-class plants. . The vineyard covers 12 hectares including 6 hectares in Fleurie all in one piece around the castle, all surrounded by a clos. In addition there are hectares in Saint-Amour and Moulin-à-Vent. Alexandra de Vazeilles also vinifies and matures Pouilly-Vinzelles, because she likes Chardonnay on limestone which produces tight and chiseled wines.
